Besides a perfect printing effect, another biggest character of flexible packaging is extending the shelf life of product,it depend on the used flexible packaging material structure, however, some customer always have such a question:”can you ensure your packaging could extend my products more X months of shelf life?”obviously, this is a misunderstanding about the “extending of shelf life”, how long the shelf life could be extended?I suppose that no ones could guaranteed.

1-Product shelf life of itself

product shelf life of itself means how long shelf life the product could be kept under the normal temperature storage environment, some product shelf life of itself is short, such as 2-3months,and some product shelf life of itself is long(some foods with the food additives),such as 1year.

2-Storage environment of product

Storageenvironment of product, means the environment under normal temperature or low temperature, usually, the environment under low temperature could extend the product shelf life in max.

3-Flexible packaging material structure

The different materials structure could extend the product shelf life in different, such as single layer material structure is the worst;multilayer flexible packaging structure is the best.

So, how long of shelf life could be extended? theoretically speaking, under conditions of the best environment of product storage(low temperature) and flexible packaging material structure of multi barrier layer, the product shelf life must be longer than the one under the normal storage temperature environment of product, however, how long of shelf life could be extended? it has not an uniform standard.
